Welcome students!
My name is Miss Kayla and I am going to be your second grade teacher this year. Second grade is a fun grade to be in, but we also have to push ourselves to become even better than last year. I just graduated from North Georgia College in Dahlonega with a degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. You children are my very first class that I have taught on my own! I did my student teaching at Robinson Elementary for two years before I was able to graduate. I live in Dawsonville with my dog, Zoey. My favorite food is stromboli, which is like a pizza rolled up and my favorite thing to drink is sweet tea. I love to hike, run, play tennis, spend time with my family, and travel. My favorite holiday is Halloween because it is in October, just like my birthday! I want to know everything about each and every one of you, but let’s hold that information for a few minutes. We are going to do a fun activity to get to know everybody in here.
I want to review some of our class rules with you before we do anything else. First of all, I expect you to be quiet and listen when I am talking or if one of your classmates is sharing something. When we do group work or centers I will allow you to whisper to your neighbor, but if it gets too loud we will have to be silent. In my classroom we will pull baseballs. The first time you get in trouble you will pull your baseball to Foul ball. The second time will be strike 1. If you get to strike 2 or strike 3 you will have to fill out a behavior paper for your mom and dad to sign and return to school. Each month we will have a fun Friday. If you pull more than eight baseballs during the month, you will not be allowed to participate in fun Friday. Pencils will be kept in this can labeled sharpened. If you have a pencil that needs to be sharpened put it in the can labeled unsharpened. The helper that day will be responsible for sharpening those at the end of the day. If you notice how our desks are arranged, there are five groups. We have a Monday group, a Tuesday group, a Wednesday group, a Thursday group, and a Friday group. On Mondays, the people in the Monday group will be my helpers, on Tuesdays the people in the Tuesday group will be my helpers, and so on. I have baskets in the back of the room labeled spelling, writing, and math. This is where all of your assignments will be turned in to. You will get your assignments back to you and graded each Friday to take home and show Mom and Dad. Reading stations are spread throughout the room and as you can see, are clearly labeled. This chart over here has your name with the group that you are in and the stations you will go to each day. We will go over these together step-by-step tomorrow when we start stations.
Now that you children are probably tired of listening to me talk, lets get to know our classmates!
